Wilpattu is defined by its villu lakes – natural circular water holes in the forest that attract wildlife throughout the day in a landscape with almost no other visitors. Far fewer tourists than Yala, a very different atmosphere, and a quality of quiet wilderness that serious wildlife culture-focused travellers come specifically for. Leopard sightings are possible but not promised – which is accurate, and important.
