Pidurangala Rock is twenty minutes’ walk from Sigiriya and offers the view most heritage-focused travellers actually want: Sigiriya Rock rising above the jungle, best at sunrise when the light catches the rock face. Less crowded than Sigiriya, a shorter climb, no entrance fee. The ancient rock temple at the base is interesting in its own right.
