Adam’s Peak is simultaneously sacred to Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and Christians. The pre-dawn climb with lanterns on the stone steps, and thousands of people from all four traditions ascending in the dark, is one of those experiences with very few equivalents anywhere. The triangular shadow cast westward across the lowland plains at first light is the payoff.
